Our Lives News

Our Lives News is a unique online news programme produced by the pupils across our Trust schools. Editions will appear during the school year and each will include news and features from across our schools.

Having pupils record their school news as a video is an excellent tool for many reasons reasons:

  1. Enhances Communication Skills: Pupils improve their speaking, listening, and presentation skills. They learn to articulate clearly, use appropriate body language, and convey information in an engaging way, which are valuable skills both in school and beyond.

  2. Boosts Confidence: Being in front of a camera and presenting to an audience helps build self-confidence. It gives pupils a platform to express themselves, share their ideas, and overcome any fear of public speaking.

  3. Encourages Creativity: Video production involves creativity. Pupils can experiment with storytelling and visual techniques, and different formats, which fosters creative thinking and problem-solving.

  4. Promotes Collaboration: Producing a news video requires teamwork. Pupils learn to work together, delegate tasks, and support each other, developing essential collaboration and leadership skills.

  5. Engages the School Community: A video format is engaging and accessible, making it easier to share news with the wider school community. Parents, staff, and pupils can all watch and feel more connected to what’s happening in their school.

  6. Creates a Sense of Ownership and Pride: When pupils see their work shared with the school community, it gives them a sense of accomplishment. They take pride in contributing to something that has a visible impact on the school.

  7. Preserves School Memories: These videos become part of the school’s history, documenting important events, achievements, and day-to-day life. It’s a way to preserve memories and celebrate the school’s journey.

This initiative not only enriches the pupils' educational experience but also aligns with preparing them for the future, where digital literacy and communication skills are key.
